Diamondhead Mississippi: Where living is easy

Diamondhead, Mississippi is a high point both in commerce and geographical location. It is named after an iconic volcano in Hawaii because the land is the highest point of elevation on the Gulf Coast.

But that isn’t the only reason Hancock County is shining brightly. This resort community was the start of something huge for not just the Gulf Coast in Mississippi but even into St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana: The NASA Test Facility. As you can imagine, the area boomed with economic development by adding new infrastructure, businesses, and homes. All that new development made it a hotbed for builders, tradesmen and contractors.

Then

The area was young, making great money and enjoying all the opportunities Diamondhead had to offer until hurricane Katrina landed in 2005. The south side of town was badly hit by the storm surge causing damage to homes, the commercial heartbeat of the city and lots of displaced residence. The concern on how to rebuild the community to shine like it did in the 60’s & 70’s was real.

Now

Fast forward to today and there is no doubt that Diamondhead is back! The community and government came together closer than ever to preserve the high quality of life.  Visitors and residents alike enjoy the region’s natural beauty along the Gulf Coast Scenic Byways trails, the eye-catching NASA’s INFINITY Science Center, visible from the interstate, golfing, marina, and last year it was announced that the city would fund over $2 million in grants for economic growth.

Some of the much-anticipated projects are a City Hall Exercise Fitness Trail, roundabout, kayak launch, biking trail and more!
